Grapevine, Texas Grapevine is the oldest settlement in Tarrant County, originating under the Lone Star Flag in 1844, a year before Texas became a part of the United States.
In October, 1844, General Sam Houston and fellow Republic of Texas Commissioners camped at Tah-Wah-Karro Creek, also known as Grape Vine Springs, to meet with leaders of ten Indian nations. This historic meeting culminated in the signing of a tread of "peace, friendship and commerce," which opened the area for settlement by homesteaders and pioneers. The settlement was name Grapevine because of its location on the Grape Vine Prairie near Grape Vine Springs, both of which were named for the tart, wild Mustang grapes that blanketed the area.
Today....Grapevine is home to many wineries and tasting rooms as wll as the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association. Tastings, as well as bottle and case sales, are availab le at the wineries. Grapevine hosts the largest wine festival in the southwest every September and many other festivals throughout the year. In April the famous Wine Trail festival has many historial features and everyone enjoys experiencing the new wines of the season.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, downtown Grapevine and its surrounding areas have a variet of attractions. Step back in time and relive the proud heritage of Grapevine's forefathers. Walk along the avenues of the historic Main Street District. Steam and diesel engines pull excursion trains drawn from four passenger coaches and two touring coaches.
