DENTON
When it comes to blending sights and sounds, Denton is a virtual orchestra of small town charm and big city arts, culture, education and entertainment. Denton is a town without limits maybe due to the international feel of the university communities with a combined student population of 40,000, a world renowned jazz band, the serene beauty of Texas's finest horse country and hospitality. It's music, museums, history, family, friends,festivals, high learning, antiques, displays of heart and home everywhere.
New to Denton is the Water Works Parks which opened the summer of 2003. The water park features lazy river, childrens play area, water slides, and an indoor Natatorium. Other recreation and sports facilities include: areas golf courses, Championship frisbee golf course, auto racing at Texas Motor Speedway, biking at Greenbelt Trail, football at area High Schools and UNT, fishing and skiing at Lake Ray Roberts.
In the spring and summer Denton come alive and festivals and concerts. During the months of May and June the Denton Main Street Program presents a FREE concert series featuring a variet of musical styles. Bring a picnic basket, blanket or chairs and enjoy an evening of great live music. Concerts are held on the lawn of the Denton County Courthouse downtown. Also in June downtown a Saturday is devoted to Man's best friend during the popular "Dog Daze of Summer" with games, doggie costumes, dog tricks, doggie parade and displays with canine information, food, and crafts.
During the winter The Denton Main street Program also sponsers "Christmas on the Square" with carriage rides, caroling, hot cider and shopping. The downtown merchants open there doors that evening for everyone to enjoy Christmas decorations and enjoy doing a little Christmas shopping. It has become to many a Christimas tradition and fun for the whole family.
Denton offers many places to stay while you visit before making Denton you hometown. We have two wonderful bed and breakfast Inns: The Heritage Inn Bed and Breakfast Cluster; The Redbud House, The Magnolia House, The Pecan House. The Wildwood Inn, Dentons newest, offers 13 rooms and has a European flair.

FLOWER MOUND, TEXAS
Flower Mound, south of Denton and northwest of Dallas in south central Denton County, is a residential suburban community of 20,000 acres on the shore of Grapevine Lake. It was established soon after Sam Houston settled a tribal dispute in 1844 and Indian raids in the area creased. Permanent settlers moved in, attracted by the quality of the soil, which was suitable for raising cotton, corn and wheat. The Peters Colony named the town for a fifty foot high mound covered with Indian Paintbrush. The mound was once used by Indians as a holy place. Unlike many pioneer settlements in Denton County that were bypassed by the railroads in the late nineteenth century or unable to survive the Great Depression, Flower Mound maintained a steady population throughout the first four decades of the twentieth century and became a substantial farming and cattle raising community. In the mid 1950's the town began to grow. The lake stimulated the economy of the community and attracted workers who preferred to live outside the central Dallas area.
Flower Mound, Texas is a family-friendly community with an exceptional quality of life, while also maintaining one of the lowest tax rates in the Metroplex. Money magazine recently rated the town as the best place to live in Texas and the second best in the entire western United States in our population category.
